A Simple Favor (2018)

Capitalizing on the same success as 2014’s incredibly meticulous one Girl and 2016’s cluttered and underwhelming Girl on a Train comes Paul Feig’s (Bridesmaids, The Heat) adaptation of A Simple Favor, an adaptation of a 2017 novel by the same name. Unfortunately, that is what this movie feels like to me…a crappy knockoff with two Hollywood A-listers that was made hastily with a less than believable story by a director who was clearly over his head with this genre. This movie was preposterous in its concept and was only topped in absurdity by its cursory character development and inability to clearly define a genre, which leaves us asking as many questions about the movie’s style as it does its other elements.

Bridesmaids (2011)

bridesmaids movie posterThough 2010 was the best year for movie releases in my lifetime with the likes of movies like The TownInception, Shutter IslandBlue Valentine127 Hours, Black Swan, and The King’s Speech, it still liked that one killer comedy (although Date Night was an entertaining movie). I have also heard very good things about Get Him to the Greek, but I still have not seen it. 2011, on the other hand, has had some fantastic comedies, including The Hangover Part 2 (sure, it was the first movie all over again, but it was still laugh-out-loud hilarious, so who cares), Hall PassHorrible Bosses, and the more sentimental Crazy, Stupid, Love. which was just as endearing as it was funny. But, without a doubt, the funniest movie of the year was Bridesmaids.
